Robert Mareković – BIOGRAPHY

  • born on 22 October in the Clinical Hospital Centre, Petrova in Zagreb.
  • he grew up in Novi Zagreb and attended primary school in the neighbourhood of Travno
  • through his parents’ record collection he grew to love the music performed by Fats Domino, Hollies, the Beatles and of course Elvis Presley
  • he attended the Administrative High School in Zagreb
  • his first performance was at his Christmas school show in 1986 where he sang Fever, Blue Moon and Maybe Baby
  • his first public performance was with his original band Rockin’ kids on 13 December 1987 at KSET club
  • in the spring of 1988 he co-founded the band Voodoo cats with Krešimir Mišak
  • in 1989 the Vodoo cats became Fantomi
  • that same year he worked as a DJ on legendary Blue Moon nights in Kulušić
  • in 1989 Fantomi released their first promo single Beba, bebica
  • on 8 March 1990 their debut album Veliki odmor was released, featuring hits like Dudica, Pivo- konjak- štok, Kraljica, Bijeli cadillac
  • that same year Mareković became a host of a popular children’s show on the Croatian Radiotelevision
  • the show was cancelled after one season due to the outbreak of war
  • during the war Fantomi took part in more than 200 charity events
  • the second album Sretan rođendan came out in 1992, with hits likeSretan rođendan, Slomit ću ti srce, Ritam kiše and Pepermint
  • near the end of that year they recorded Sretan Božić svakome, a huge airplay hit and one of the most popular Christmas songs to be covered
  • 1993-1994 Robert Mareković retook the hosting of the TV children’s show Hrtić-hitić
  • the third album Planet majmuna was released in 1993
  • in October 1994, after their last single together Ima nešto u tvojim očima, Robert left the band
  • in 1995 he worked as a radio host on Radio Sljeme
  • between 1995-1997 he released four independent singles
  • in 1997 he appeared at the first Croatian Radio Festival
  • that year he reformed the band with new members in order to make the album Iza zatvorenih vrata
  • in 1998 he started producing the radio show Povratak u budućnost(Back to the future) on the second Croatian radio channel HR2
  • in 1999 he founded the band Swingers (see band biography for more information)
  • in the new millennium he writes about music and contributes to Polet, Koox, Večernji list and Aquarius Records
  • in 2005 he gathered the band Fantomi for a short while, so as to give two performances and record a single after 11 years, which was calledStari saxofon and appeared on the compilation album – Fantomi – Zlatna kolekcija (Golden collection)
  • at the moment he produces three radio shows aired on the second Croatian radio channel HR2, the already mentioned Povratak u budućnost, Dolcevita and Noć plavog mjeseca (Night of the Blue Moon)
